Show to Tell cards are a portable communication tool that can be used anywhere. They are easy for children and adults to use at home, in the classroom, on the go, even in the car. The cards are designed to be a tool to express needs and relate to others. Basic needs and requests are expressed using easy to understand pictures paired with simple phrases to replace or support communication. Our basic pack was designed with preschool age in mind and we can also design custom cards to suit your needs.
They can benefit anyone who wants to improve communication, build confidence, promote positive behavior, and strengthen relationships. Our basic set of communication cards was designed based on common communication used at preschool. This means they apply to our basic needs at any age: bathroom, feeding, sharing, waiting, requesting, and giving positive feedback.
You can introduce as many or few of the cards as your child is ready to learn, depending on their interest and level of language development. If your goal is to manage emotions or difficult behaviors, we recommend introducing the cards first when they are calm and ready to practice these strategies. Ask them to show you what they see on the card or seek guidance from your family's speech therapist.
You can print a PDF copy of cards at home for free or use Amazon to order a set printed on square playing cards. Keep scrolling to learn more. What if you want to use different pictures or phrases? Looking for a different size? Send me an email describing what you are looking for and I can create a custom set just for you, based on your specific needs. Want to learn how to create your own? I would love to share the resources and methods I used to makee Show to Tell Communication Cards.
If you have concerns about your child’s speech and communication, talk to your doctor about a referral to a Speech-Language Pathologist, also known as a Speech Therapist. They will work with you as a team to choose and apply specific tools and strategies for your child. Read more about signs that your child may benefit from speech therapy here.
